Must-Have Items For Photography During Your Wedding Day
When it comes to my preferences as a wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, here are four must-have items I’d love to shoot for you on wedding day.
As a destination wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, the getting ready portion of the event may very well be my favorite part of a couple’s nuptials. To me, it acts as the preface, the establishing moments during the wedding where we introduce the main characters. It is during this time where I choose to highlight them to the best of my abilities and paint them in the best light, both figuratively and literally. There is, however, a supporting cast that often goes unmentioned but provides a wonderful assist telling a better love story for the partners getting married. I will share some of my favorites now so that, if you’re considering getting married with me, can be better prepared to take some of the most amazing shots during your special day.
The Love Letter
Unlike a vow book, writing a wedding-day specific love letter to your counterpart is one of the most romantic things I can shoot as a professional photographer in Puerto Rico. Pouring your emotions and letting them flow through your pen’s ink makes for some of the most memorable captures paired with my ability to capture a candid moment. The reason why writing your future husband or wife a love letter is so rewarding is because you’ll be the only one to ever read it and that alone makes the words you share that much more special. It’s a wonderful opportunity to go back to the day you met, what your relationship makes you feel and convey a heartwarming moment that you’ve shared in the past, one that has become a stepping stone and led you to where you are today. The really epic love letters always make someone shed a tear if truly written in an emotional way and that’s the perfect change for me to attain some truly intimate shots as a Puerto Rico wedding photographer.
2. Couple’s Gift
Many times unbeknownst to me, the couple will gift themselves with a token of their appreciation towards one another. Sometimes it’s a small detail that is tied to either an inside joke or a past memory they’ve made together while others may actually be quite lavish in nature, symbolic of how much they mean to each other. I think that couples who gift each other an item and exchange them during the wedding day really add value to the getting ready portion of the wedding day, one that I treasure dearly as a wedding photographer in Puerto Rico. I’ve seen it all from a watch that the groom would wear on the day of the wedding to a bracelet that the bride would don as it glistens while walking down the aisle. Regardless of what you decide to gift, my recommendation is that it moves your counterpart to the point where I’m able to put myself in a position to capture that end result as a professional photographer in Puerto Rico.
3. The Vow Book
As opposed to the aforementioned love letter, having a dedicated vow book is something very special. Sometimes they’re written in advance and others, in a more sentimental way, can be written the day of the wedding and have a little bit more weight to them. As a photographer in Puerto Rico focused on destination weddings, I know that, to a bride and groom, a vow book goes way deeper than a love letter ever will. It’s essentially a promise contract, one that will be honored for a long as both members shall live. Think of this as the previous love letter but on steroids. A vow book promises to deliver some of the more emotional moments that I will ever capture so really writing from the heart will put me in a position to succeed. Images like shedding a tear, a hand on the face and even an image of a bride or groom reading it in private from a distance will be extremely meaningful when added to your final gallery.
4. The Details
The details are considered more of that pertaining to each individual. They represent what is symbolic to each respective partner and, as a photographer in San Juan, Puerto Rico, I thoroughly enjoy capturing these as creatively as possible. From whiskey bottles and luxury watches to Louis Vuitton bags and handcrafter invitations, nice flat lay photography gives me a great starting point for your wedding day. I usually love getting to the wedding venue, regardless if its Hacienda Siesta Alegre or Hotel Vanderbilt in Condado, so that I can take my time decorating the details and exercise my craft in a stress-free environment. I wholeheartedly believe that I’d be doing a disservice to my couple if I were to skip photographing details simply because I think they play such a vital role in the storytelling process of someone’s special day. They’re like stepping stones leading up to a wonderful journey that you’re about to embark on and, as a destination wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, I want to make sure I tell an engaging one.
The Sepia Bride Fiasco: What It Is & What We Can All Learn
Sepia Gate, as it is now known, is a contractual battle between wedding photographer and a self-proclaimed “bridezilla”. In this article, I outline what the commotion is and what can be done to prevent it as a wedding photographer in Puerto Rico.
The wedding photography community was shaken to its core recently as a result of a debacle that transpired between a now famous client and her photographer. Alexandra Jaye, a bride who tied the knot in Anguilla not too long ago, took to social media to voice her displeasure with Hannah Elise because of the final images that were delivered of her wedding day. From what we know, Alexandra began disparaging Hannah online through a set of TikTok videos stemming from her wedding gallery which she found to be way different than that from what she was expecting to receive. The main reason why this industry was completely caught off guard is due to the fact that this doesn’t happen often and in this blog post I will explain why that is, what caused it and what prospective clients as well as wedding photographers can learn from other people’s mistakes.
By now, this matter has been well documented from social media to podcasts so I’ll take the opportunity to briefly summarize in case you’re just joining this party. Hannah Elise is a destination wedding photographer based in Florida who initially caught the attention of Alexandra as a result of perusing Instagram “as people normally do”. The bride in question then proceeds to explicitly state of her awareness of Hanna’s ‘golden’ tone to her images (something that is evidenced by her presets). In order to corroborate this information, I, as a destination wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, took it upon myself to follow Alexandra’s claims and I can certify that Hannah’s editing style does, in fact, have an overall warm tonality to her entire gallery. She is a self-proclaimed ‘true to color’ photographer but I wholeheartedly disagree (more on that a little bit later).
That being said, the first thing that comes to mind is the fact that the bride failed to perform her due diligence; this has actually yielded a brand new clause within the nomenclature of my wedding photography contract. What this means is that Alexandra has gone on record as saying that she failed to realize Hannah’s ‘golden’ hue started to weigh on her a month after her wedding gallery was delivered. She cites yellow teeth, lack of makeup details and even red streaks in her hair as part of the claim that something needs to be done about these edits. As an experienced photographer in Puerto Rico, I can wholeheartedly agree with Alexandra’s take shortly thereafter: the probabilities of Hannah using her own presets for wedding galleries is extremely likely; to be expected.
Here’s the kicker: a preset has a lot of moving parts and ironically none at the same time. In order to put together a preset that actually works, the same shooting scenario has to be consistent throughout the example images that one must photograph in order to make said preset relevant time and time again for, not just the creator, but people that can possibly purchase it as a digital asset. As part of my investigation in this matter, I swung by Hannah’s accounts and saw one common denominator that was her ultimate demise: the golden glow preset appears to have been manufactured during Hannah’s plethora of weddings shot during ideal photography situations: clear skies, epic sunsets, colorful scenery, etc. This was obviously not the case with Alexandra’s wedding, hence the discrepancy.
When you slap on a preset to any photo, the aesthetics are essentially ‘baked in’. That is photography jargon for when the settings that compose that preset are stationary and will be applied cohesively to any image regardless of composition, lighting, subjects and any other parameter belonging to a particular set of pixels. This, in turn, affects Alexandra’s end result because what looks great in most of Hannah’s pictorials will not necessarily be up to par with what the bride was expecting; what kills me as a professional photographer is that it appears as though Hannah failed to recognize this gap that forms between preset and exported .JPEG and did not properly tweak the sliders to make her preset work. Eventually Alexandra noticed, raised concerns and it began a contentious debate of who should be doing what and why. Rumor has it Hannah is now considering suing for defamation and slander; the entire community will be keeping a close watch at what transpires.
What can both couples and vendors learn from this?
When seeking a wedding photographer, do your research. Odds are that Alexandra casually stumbled across Hannah’s editing style and didn’t see past the surface. She most likely failed to ask key questions and dive deep into Hannah’s galleries before pulling the trigger and giving her the job. This is the most important day in the lives of many couples (barring any other personal achievement or accolade) so you have to be absolutely prepared to ask all sorts of questions about everything from their history and styles to how the adapt to changing scenarios and work under pressure.
When you receive a lead, probe them right back. Just because I get an inquiry from this website doesn’t necessarily mean that I’m going to be taking you on as a client. Whenever a prospective client reaches out to ask about my services, I ask them insightful questions such as what caught their attention about my style, first and foremost. If they’re contacting you it means they like what they see and I use that as leverage to question how they met, how long they’ve been dating and what their vision is for their special day. It’s great to be desired and sought after but it’s just as important to make sure you’ll eventually see eye-to-eye with your client not just during the initial stages, but long after your business relationship is finalized. Prevent nightmares by being diligent.
As far as expectations are concerned, set them together. If this previously discussed tragedy goes, in fact, go to trial it’ll inevitably become a landmark case within the photography community. Alexandra and Hannah (at least from the outside looking in) failed to set expectations regarding what the final result would be and ultimately reached an impasse when Alex demanded her pictures be reedited and also requested .RAWs to be sent (something that makes me cringe as a wedding photographer in Puerto Rico). If I join forces with a bride and groom to shoot their elopement photographs, I sit them down and talk about what they want as well as how we’re going to work together for that vision to come to life. As long as we’re holding hands through the process, we also hold each other accountable that we’re doing everything within the realms of our respective possibilities to aid one another in doing so.
What gets said, gets written: no work gets done without a contract. I don’t care if you want an hour of couple’s photography in Old San Juan or to hire me as your luxury destination photographer in Puerto Rico: if you bring forth ideas to the table, requirements and non-negotiables, we’re putting ink to paper. Things shouldn’t end there: if we happen to sit down during a virtual meeting to banter back-and-forth about new ideas and we cement them, the current contract gets amended and resigned. I’ll be the first one to admit I love that I get to photograph love itself but it’s all fun and games when someone crosses a line they shouldn’t and before that happens, it’s better to set clear boundaries about what everyone’s role is going to be moving forward.
Decanter Hotel & Old San Juan: The Perfect Backdrop for Bryan & Mary Luz
Engagement session for Bryan & Mary Luz at the Decanter Hotel in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico shot by a professional wedding photographer.
The Engagement Session in Puerto Rico
Bryan and Mary Luz met during the pandemic. Like many couples, they resorted to each other in difficult times which is a great starting point a wonderful friendship. Finding solace in a partner in the face of adversity can lay the foundation for an incredible romantic partnership. They hail from Connecticut but wanted to escape the continental U.S. to get married in Puerto Rico at La Concha Hotel in Condado, a venue that, as a professional photographer, I’m extremely familiar with. I shot one of my most complete weddings there last year with Carlos & Denise and memorized all of the great spots for pictures. I trust I can achieve the same results with these two lovebirds.
They flew in recently to Puerto Rico to secure the venue and we figured it would be a great opportunity to shoot their engagement session in Old San Juan, a city that is eclectic in nature and as colorful as they come. As a wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, this happens to be one of my most frequented stops along my journey because the feeling Old San Juan provides is just otherworldly. You get the classic Spanish vibes mixed with modern nooks and crannies making it the perfect backdrop for an engagement session as a prequel to a wedding. Once the venue was secured, we proceeded to meet up at the Decanter Hotel across the street from El Convento, also a popular wedding venue in Puerto Rico.
Our first order of business was getting to meet in person. Believe it or not, we hadn’t even met virtually beforehand and I was looking forward to doing so. After getting to Old San Juan rather early for some grub, I asked Mary Luz if she’d be OK with me heading into the Decanter Hotel and taking some pictures of them getting ready together. Not only do I think it’s super cute but it just so happens to be one of my favorite parts of being a destination wedding photographer in Puerto Rico. Intimacy and romance is a combination I enjoy photographing and, being the hopeless romantic I am, it’s safe to say that it’s very near and dear to my heart seeing my couples interact with each other in an organic and authentic manner.
Not only did Mary Luz think it was a great idea but I showed up early since I tell all of my couples that, as a professional photographer, I’m always “annoyingly punctual” anywhere I’m requested in Puerto Rico. One of my reasons for doing so, regardless if it’s a wedding or elopement, is due to the fact that I enjoy a stress-free environment, something I take great pride in providing for all of my clients. When the doorman let me upstairs, I quickly made my way to the elevator and in a matter of minutes I was knocking on their door and shaking hands. Immediately I could feel a sense of togetherness and warmth and their vibe was definitely down-to-Earth.
As soon as we were done exchanging pleasantries, I went immediately to scout the room that they had rented and, although it was quite cozy, it did have a lot of natural light allowing me to capture genuine moments of them getting ready. Admittedly, Mary Luz was still wondering what dress to go with and, after comparing her original choice to a more yellow, sundress vibe we decided to go with a classic white sleeveless number. Bryan, on the other hand, opted to leave his suit jacket behind and stick to just a tie seeing as how it’s as hot as it gets in Puerto Rico.
Once I felt as though we had taken enough pictures to put together a solid prequel to their outing, we then proceeded to exit the premises but not before making a few pit stops along the way. First, I noticed the nice archways perfect for an engagement photography session. I maintained my distance as much as I could and snapped a few portraits of them for a safe distance (although I could hear them whispering sweet nothings into each other’s ears). We then took the elevator downstairs where we stumbled across the lobby garden I had seen on the way up; I knew that coming down I’d want to sit them there, specially when I saw we had it all to ourselves for a few minutes. There’s nothing quite like an uninterrupted session for an engagement photographer in Puerto Rico.
I was actually surprised by the fact that the Decanter Hotel happens to be a solid choice for an engagement session in Puerto Rico. Their staff was welcoming, the rooms were easy to find, it looked like they had all of the amenities one might need and the overall ambiance of the place was extremely versatile during my visit. I wholeheartedly recommend taking a look at this and considering incorporating this as a wedding venue in Puerto Rico to some extent because it appears you have everything all in one place and could be a wonderful precursor as part of the portfolio to a wedding photographer in Old San Juan.
As fate would have it we made our way out into the hot streets of the city where we met up with Bryan, the Swiss-Army knife of my photography team and my chosen assistant for the day. I figured it’d be an excellent way to test my flash photography skillset by having him carry a monopod pole all session long with a Godox AD100 strobe at the end of it. Paired with my new Godox X3 trigger it was an absolutely breeze to shoot Bryan and Mary Luz and let them know what would be taking place for the foreseeable future. Dimming down the background a bit and then shining the light on this lovely couple made for a wonderful engagement session in Old San Juan that I shall not soon forget.
I feel like I certainly outdid myself as far as creative lighting is concerned. That’s why I love a great engagement session prior to the wedding day because it allows for that outside-the-box mentality that’s required and not allowed for the most part during the bride and groom session at a nuptials ceremony in Puerto Rico. By having an assistant like Bryan shadow us around, I was able to take a step back and shoot from the cuff while not thinking too much and forcing my back against the wall to think on my feet.
We actually ventured to spots I normally don’t visit like Casa Blanca (admittedly, we sneaked in before the venue was open and took some of my favorite shots in their lovely green areas). The sun was steadily setting and we knew we were burning daylight but at the same time it was the perfect opportunity to capitalize on a combination of artificial and natural light which captivated our eyes and made for an amazing end to my session as a Puerto Rico engagement photographer. I’ll leave you now with what I think are some of the best flash photography I’ve taken. Remember that if you’d like to get together with me, you can simply click here and send me a message so that we can perhaps talk about putting together an epic wedding photography memory in Puerto Rico. Thanks so much for reading along and I’ll see you in the next blog! -F
Elopement Photography in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico
Kiara and Matt engagement session in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico
Kiara and Matt came all the way from the border between Delaware and Maryland to tie the knot in Puerto Rico. As fate would have it, they had one of the most laid-back, relaxed and chill weddings of which I’ve ever been part. My team and I documented the most important four hours of their choosing and things flowed so smoothly. I did, however, feel as though we were missing one of my favorite parts of an entire wedding: the bride and groom session.
As a token of my appreciation, I took these two lovebirds to one of my favorite spots for probably any photographer in Puerto Rico: Old San Juan. This city boasts such a great amount of cool spots for pictures that you really can’t go wrong anywhere. I asked them to meet me in the morning, something that I’ve never done before, and they didn’t disappoint. I typically shoot during a wedding here when brides and grooms want to do their ‘first look’ here or, at the very least in the afternoons with other couples, but a morning session wasn’t all that bad!
We were so blessed to have such amazing weather this day. Don’t get me wrong: scorching hot days aren’t always the easiest in which to shoot because you’re seemingly wiping your brow every two seconds but I think it’s safe to say we’d prefer that any day over torrential rain pour. One of the many reasons as to why I wanted to gift Kiara and Matt is due to the fact that we always have to adhere to tight windows of opportunity during a wedding day. A ‘love story’ session by a professional photographer is a key element to great nuptials in Puerto Rico. It allows us for a higher volume, creativity and a stress-free environment to allow for the couple to be themselves.
The rules were simple: no huge amounts of time were to be invested in posing. I did my best to remain ‘in the shadows’ because my theme for the session was to just let them be themselves and remain at a safe distance the entire time. I did stop them every now and then because I thought to myself that ‘this’ and ‘that’ would make for a great backdrop (as evidenced by some of the pictures attached). I feel like I’m gravitating to a more personalized approach to my photography and a lot less clinical and/or staged. This was the perfect demonstration of what ‘The Escapade’ can be: just two souls looking to get away and have the process documented in the most organic way possible.
I firmly believe that by allowing your couples to let loose and not adhere to a posing guide or even prompts, it gives them the opportunity to go with the flow and do what comes natural. At the end of the day that’s what I want to accomplish as a Puerto Rico wedding photographer: to document love as it’s naturally occuring. That’s just the thing: I told them when we started that my hopes for this session would be to photographer romance and intimacy. It takes a great deal of effort to convince your couple (let alone anyone) to open themselves up to you to showcase their affection like this.
I don’t take this for granted and that’s why I wanted to go above and beyond for Kiara and Matt as their wedding photographer in Puerto Rico. They travel from afar and, although Kiara has roots here, Matt doesn’t and I wanted him to feel like he’s home away from home. The only way I could do that was to have a conversation (albeit through texts the night before) and do a play-by-play of what my vision was for this engagement session in Old San Juan. I’m happy they were all in on my idea because I think these turned out great with a different style of filmic editing that I’m putting together moving forward.
Kiara & Matt at the Cataño Convention Center
Kiara & Matt tied the knot with me at the Catano Convention Center where we enjoyed a fabulous sunset among family and friends.
Kiara and Matt, a couple from Maryland, reached out to me to become their destination wedding photographer in Puerto Rico. They were captivated by my cinematic imagery and the lavish experience I provide for brides and grooms. Knowing that Puerto Rico offers a stunning backdrop for their special day, they were eager to have me capture their wedding with unparalleled customer service and all the luxury features I offer to every couple. Together, we began planning how their dream wedding would unfold on the beautiful island, ensuring every moment would be immortalized with my distinctive style.
The couple confessed that they had met on a dating app around three years ago and had been engaged for one of those years before deciding to tie the knot in Puerto Rico. The bride and groom shared that their journey from swiping right to saying "I do" had been filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments. Celebrating their union in the magnificent sights of Puerto Rico was a dream they had both envisioned since the beginning of their relationship. The lush landscapes and captivating backdrops of the island added a touch of magic to their special day, making it an unforgettable experience for not only the couple but also their guests.
Kiara was drawn to my artistic photography style as she searched for a wedding photographer in Puerto Rico who could deliver both emotional storytelling and playful imagery. She sought a comprehensive approach that could capture the beauty and significance of her special day while also reflecting the joy and love shared between her and her partner. By focusing on cinematic imagery that balances emotion and playfulness, I was able to offer Kiara the unique visual experience she desired for her wedding in Puerto Rico.
The Cataño Convention Center served as the stunning backdrop for her reception, a lavish affair following a heartfelt ceremony at a church in Levittown surrounded by family and friends. The grandeur of the Convention Center perfectly complemented the couple's love story, providing a luxurious setting for a truly unforgettable celebration. From the exchange of vows to the first dance, every moment captured in cinematic imagery by my team reflected the couple's joy and the elegance of their special day.
Cozy and intimate weddings in Puerto Rico are some of my favorite to capture. Paired with videography, they make for the best events regardless of duration. Capturing the essence of love in such a warm setting allows for breathtaking moments that truly speaks to the hearts of the couple and their guests. From the gentle ocean breezes to the vibrant sunsets, these weddings are filled with an undeniable charm that deserves to be immortalized through both photography and videography. Each moment, no matter how small, becomes a part of a beautiful love story that will be cherished for a lifetime.
I loved how Kiara incorporated a few of her closest friends and family into her bride and groom session. It truly speaks volumes about the importance of having your loved ones near you on your most special day. By sharing those intimate moments with the people who mean the most to you, you are not only creating beautiful memories but also reaffirming the significance of their presence in your life. Kiara's decision to include her inner circle in the session encapsulates the essence of love, support, and togetherness that surrounds a wedding day, making it even more memorable and meaningful for the couple. As a wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, it’s gratifying to see everyone come together like that.
As a bride and groom preparing to exchange vows in Puerto Rico, it is crucial to identify the key elements that hold the most significance to you on your wedding day. For Kiara and Matt, capturing timeless moments from the ceremony to the cutting of the cake paramount. They placed immense value on ensuring that every aspect of their special day was documented with precision and artistry, creating lasting memories that they’ll cherish for a lifetime. Additionally, the experience provided by our top-notch customer service is essential in ensuring that their wedding day is nothing short of perfection. By prioritizing these elements, we aim to create a truly unforgettable wedding experience that reflects their unique love story in every frame. Cheers to the happy couple!
Black and White Photography: Do’s And Don’ts
As a destination wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, I’ve seen my fair share of climactic moments. In this blog, I share the circumstances when you should and shouldn’t use black and white photography in your favor.
I love a great black and white image as much as the next photographer. I think under the right circumstances it can completely overhaul the look and feel of an image. Black and white to me when used purposefully can take pixels and give them a flare for the dramatic. I do, however, feel as though there’s a time and place for them and honestly see way too many photographers these days resort to them for all the wrong reasons. In this video, we’re gonna talk about the current state of affairs, the mistakes being made and how to properly use black and white imagery.
I think we can all agree that black and white images just hit different. Something about B & W completely changes the perspective of human eyes and how they interact with a photo. There’s something inherently classy and elegant about a great black and white image specially when it was crafted in a way where the highlights and the shadows complement each other impeccably. As a destination wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, I strongly feel this way.
These days, however, black and white images are making a comeback and with that, many photographers are jumping on the bandwagon of wanting to stand out and provide clients with that aforementioned elegance. I’m not blaming anyone for trying to ride the wave but it does come with a caveat that we’re about to get into.
The first mistake I see wedding photographers make is the fact that sometimes they take a picture that is not up to par with their standards and become frustrated with editing it in color. This means that they twist and turn in post-production and never truly get around to making it look the way they want to in full color. Here comes black and white to the rescue. The next thing they do is they completely overhaul the entire image by removing the current aesthetic but the image was never meant to be in black and white and therein lies the problem: black and white is meant to me used with the right intention.
As photographers we know that certain images fare well with a colorful palette full of reds, greens, blues and yellow while other moody images would be more greatly appreciated with our famous black and white personality. It’s very important that as photographers we learn to distinguish between when color should be the default option vs. when it is better off without it. For example, a moody portrait of a bride getting ready using nothing but window lighting could be very tasteful in black and white as opposed to an entirely black and white picture of a family and friends portrait by the beach during Golden Hour. Moreover, you wouldn’t remove color from an establishing venue shot that was decorated for hours but definitely can get nostalgic in black and white with a close-up shot of the bride in tears listening to her fiancé’s wedding vows. What I’m trying to say here is that black and white imagery is meant to be used strategically to accentuate moments in time. The key is knowing when to apply it because of merit, not aesthetic. A well-versed elopement photographer in Puerto Rico like myself has come to learn to make this distinction.
The other mistake I see photographers constantly make is overusing black and white images because they think that by automatically doing so their photography is going to reach another level. Going back to what I said earlier: black and white is very nostalgic in nature and adds a borderline luxurious taste to images so I’m not surprised one bit by the trendy sights of front facing flash and lack of color. I do, however, think that by using black and white images sparingly you’re going to bring attention to key instances within your gallery and it’s going to reflect positively on you in the sense that you’ll be looked up to as the photographer that knows when to pull the trigger as opposed to those who paint a broad brush on their galleries. Black and white images don’t instantly make you a better photographer; knowing when and how to remove color…does.

Latvian Destination Wedding in Puerto Rico
Join me as we take a look at one of the most beautiful Latvian weddings I’ve ever shot as a destination wedding photographer at the gorgeous Courtyard Marriott in Isla Verde, Puerto Rico
I was thrilled to have the opportunity to capture my first Latvian ceremony as a destination wedding photographer in Puerto Rico. The union of two individuals from different cultures always brings a unique and beautiful dynamic to the celebration. As I prepared to document every moment of this special event, I found myself eager to showcase the blend of Latvian traditions against the backdrop of the stunning Puerto Rican landscape. The prospect of capturing the intricate details and emotions of this cross-cultural affair filled me with anticipation and a sense of artistic fulfillment. I approached this assignment with great respect for both the Latvian heritage and the beauty of Puerto Rico, aiming to create visual memories that would be cherished for a lifetime.
Nels, the groom from Seattle, Washington, met Ance, the bride from Latvia, and it was love at first sight. Their connection transcended borders and cultures, uniting them in a bond that was undeniable. The way Nels looked at Ance spoke volumes, reflecting a deep admiration and respect for the woman who had captured his heart. Likewise, Ance found solace in Nels' presence, feeling understood and cherished in ways she had never experienced before. As they embarked on this journey together, their love only grew stronger, setting the foundation for a marriage filled with passion, understanding, and unwavering support.
Ance and Nels chose to have their destination wedding in Puerto Rico at the beautiful Courtyard Marriott in Isla Verde after hearing about its stunning beachfront location and exceptional amenities. The couple was enthralled by the idea of exchanging vows against the backdrop of the Caribbean Sea while surrounded by their closest family and friends. This luxurious venue was the perfect setting for their dream wedding, offering both sophistication and relaxation for all their guests to enjoy. Ance and Nels were confident that their special day at the Courtyard Marriott would be nothing short of magical and unforgettable.
I am no stranger to this venue and have shot countless weddings here. The familiarity with the location allows me to anticipate the best angles, lighting conditions, and backdrops to create stunning and memorable wedding photos. Over the years, I have mastered the art of capturing the essence and beauty of each ceremony and reception held in this picturesque setting. My experience and expertise in shooting weddings at this venue ensure that every couple's special day is preserved in timeless and breathtaking imagery.
The Courtyard Marriott Isla Verde is one of my favorite wedding venues in Puerto Rico due to its versatile offerings. The beachfront location provides a picturesque backdrop for capturing unforgettable moments, while the abundance of amenities and indoor facilities ensures a seamless and memorable event regardless of the weather. Couples can exchange vows with their toes in the sand and then move indoors for a luxurious reception, all within the same venue. This versatility allows for a wide range of creative possibilities to capture stunning and cinematic wedding images that will be cherished for a lifetime.
Admittedly the weather wasn't cooperating as much as we would've hoped but, as a professional wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, we managed to circumvent the situation and take amazing pictures. Despite the unforeseen conditions, we found creative ways to capture stunning and unique moments for the bride and groom. Our experience and expertise allowed us to adapt quickly, ensuring that the couple's special day was beautifully documented, regardless of the climate challenges. Through our keen eye for detail and dedication to excellence, we delivered a breathtaking collection of images that exceeded expectations, showcasing the love and joy of the newlyweds amidst the backdrop of a less-than-ideal weather day.
The wedding was scheduled right in the middle of three weeks of heavy rain and it definitely put a dent in our plans. I remember Ance specifically wanting some pictures by the beach during sunset but those unfortunately couldn’t take place because it was a total torrential downpour during Golden Hour. We had to move things inside and take some shots of the bride and groom at a few of the lovely indoor venues (which isn’t all that bad either.) Eventually things cleared up and we were able to get together in Las Brisas, the popular wedding reception spot typically reserved for weddings at the Courtyard Marriott in Isla Verde.
In Latvian wedding traditions, the couple is often required to undertake various challenges to prove their commitment to one another and their ability to work together. One common tradition involves the groom needing to pass certain tests set by the bridesmaids before he can see the bride. These tests can range from solving puzzles to declaring his love in creative ways. Additionally, during the reception, it is customary for the bride and groom to work together to saw a log in half. This symbolizes their ability to work together to overcome obstacles in their marriage. Overall, Latvian wedding traditions emphasize the importance of teamwork, endurance, and cooperation between the couple. Ance and Nels decided to partake in more conventional traditions such as the blessing of the bread and a typical Latvian dance with the entourage. The atmosphere was filled with joy as family and friends gathered to witness the couple's special day. I made sure to capture every detail of the ceremony with precision and artistry.
The rest of the festivities of this Latvian wedding proceeded without a hitch. As the evening unfolded, the guests reveled in the joyous celebration, savoring exquisite cuisine and dancing to lively traditional music. The elegantly adorned venue sparkled with a warm ambiance, setting the perfect stage for heartfelt toasts and memorable moments. Every detail was meticulously coordinated, ensuring a seamless and unforgettable experience for the newlyweds and their loved ones. From the cutting of the decadent cake to the lively hora, the atmosphere was filled with love, laughter, and happiness, making it a truly magical occasion.
As a luxury wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, I have recently started shooting a diverse array of internationally-themed weddings, including sub-Asian and Assyrian ceremonies. Embracing the rich cultural tapestry of these weddings allows me to bring a unique perspective to my photography, capturing not only the intricate rituals and customs but also the deep emotions and connections that are universal in every celebration of love. Each international wedding presents a new and exciting creative challenge that I wholeheartedly embrace, aiming to deliver stunning cinematic imagery that reflects the beauty and significance of these diverse traditions.
“The Escapade”: A New Elopement in Puerto Rico
It’s time to say goodbye to boring elopement photography in Puerto Rico. Introducing ‘The Escapade’: a new way to tie the know with one of the best photographers in Puerto Rico. ‘The Escapade’ combines both intimacy and excitement in an all-encompassing experience tailor-made for open-minded couples willing to invest in themselves and make memories they’ll cherish for a lifetime. If you don’t want simplicity or the stress of a large wedding then this might be the right choice for you. Inquire within!
For the longest time I’ve been a fan of documenting the longest and most lavish weddings in Puerto Rico. I’ve been fortunate as a Puerto Rico wedding photographer to shoot everything from the Metro Area to the boonies on the west coast and I have absolutely no regrets. Hacienda Siesta Alegre and the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel are two of my most widely requested venues of which I’ve seen every nook and cranny. Professional photographers in Puerto Rico know that we strive to shoot weddings the most because of the environment, the entourage, the planning and just overall fireworks that come with such a glorious day for a couple. More recently, however, I’ve been noticing a steady decline in how and how long I interact with my couples. “The Escapade” aims to change that.
I’ve been sitting on this idea for a very long time because I wanted to carefully and meticulously craft something for couples that don’t necessarily want to go the route of having to invest tens of thousands of dollars, hire multiple vendors and deal with the stress of worrying about everything all at once. As a Puerto Rico photographer, I’ve been marinating ways through which I could encapsulate a couple’s love and affection while at the same time circumventing all the toil and trouble that comes with a convoluted wedding experience…and I think I’ve achieved it. I’d like to introduce you to ‘The Escapade”: an outside-the-box approach to wedding photography in Puerto Rico.
Picture this…
You arrive in Puerto Rico where I pick you up in your vehicle of choice, help you load your luggage in the car and drive you to the hotel you booked or the AirBnB you reserved months in advance. By now we’ve already gotten to know each other via virtual meetings but during this ride we get to become acquaintances and vibe the entire time there. I ask more about lovey-dovey stories while you giggle and laugh and you ask me about my experiences as a destination wedding photographer in Puerto Rico. Once we arrive at your destination, we hop back in the car I’ve rented for us because we cannot be late for the reservation I’ve made for dinner; it’ll be at one of the most sought-after restaurants in the city and you absolutely have to try their dessert menu.
Granted, this entire time I’ve been taking candid pictures because ‘The Escapade’ started the moment you set foot on the island. As I drop you off at your place, we go over the game plan: I’ll swing by again in the morning to commence the first of two creative photography sessions for the day. The reason I want to do two sessions (and not one) is because I’m not enchanted with the fact that I only get to spend between fifteen to twenty minutes (at most) with my couples during a wedding. We agree that these sessions are free flowing, with little to no posing and more of a candid vibe since the goal is to essentially hide in the shadows and ‘phlog’ (log in photographs) your journey together.
I show up early in the morning around 7 a.m. to see you two enjoying breakfast. Already with my camera in hand, I start shooting away the intimacy of your love: feeding each other, smiling and having a great conversation about how amazing the rest of your day is going to be. The goal from this moment forward is to spend the next few hours showcasing what true love really is: the little things. ‘The Escapade’ for me is about capturing real intimacy and romance while letting loose and being yourselves. It’s about the genuine moments that made you fall for each other and the authenticity with which it’ll show up in camera. To clarify, I’ll always be around during this time but my intervention will be as little and distant as possible because I don’t want to interfere or get in the way of magical moments as they arise.
All of a sudden, I get a text. It’s the officiant that I’ve booked as part of your package. That’s right: you don’t even have to worry about that because I’ve got it all covered. I tell him that we’re still on for our agreed upon time and that we’ll meet him outside once your choice of symbolic and/or legal ceremony is set to take place. In the meantime, we now pivot to the getting ready. This is very near and dear to my heart because it’s the preface of what is going to be your long and prosperous life together. As a wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, I’m used to a lot of ‘first looks’: that stage of the wedding where a groom gets tapped on the shoulder and turns around to then soak in his bride for the first time. As part of ‘The Escapade’ you get to help each other dress for the occasion instead. With camera in hand, I’ll be by your side as you help him throw on his shirt and he returns the favor by helping zip up your dress. It’s about doing everything together.
In between shots, I make sure to gather your precious details and get up close and personal with them using the natural light that’s readily available. That’s one thing you should know about ‘The Escapade’: little to no flash will be used. Why? That’s because I want you to be able to experience your elopement in Puerto Rico just as nature intended: organically. Whenever you choose your housing arrangement, a venue with a vast amount of windows is preferred so that we can take advantage of that glorious Sun both in the morning as well as golden hour in the afternoon. Couples photography just hits different when there are less moving parts and more naturally happening occurrences.
Now that you two are looking dapper, the time has come to make it official. As we make our way to the officiant, I’m circling you both as you stare into each other’s eyes not believing what’s about to happen. The culmination of your affection is about to show up front and center for the most important day of your life: the day in which you both become one. You arrive at either and archway or a grassy knoll overlooking the Puerto Rican mountains and feel a fresh breeze caressing your hair as you grab each other’s hands and hear the officiant’s welcome. As you go through the process, you reach into your respective pockets to verbalize the vows you’ve perfected in anticipation for this climactic moment. I’m there creating memories with every heartfelt sentence while you gaze into each other’s eyes verbalizing the promises that will hold your relationship together for decades to come.
As if that wasn’t fun enough, the real fun is just getting started. The festivities begin by enjoying the first of many activities you’ve selected for yourselves as part of ‘The Escapade’ package that you chose. You can either go visit ‘El Yunque’: Puerto Rico’s most famous landmark or switch things up with a couple’s massage in order to wind down a bit. The great thing about this decision is that there is no wrong answer and anything goes. By now I’m sure you're working quite the appetite so it’s only right we swing by that place by the corner that’s waiting for you with a private table for two. As I sneak in a few pictures from afar, you both sit down to enjoy a delicious ‘mofongo’: the Puerto Rican cuisine staple. You both wash it down with a cup of the finest coffee in the world because you’ll need the energy for the afternoon session on which we’re about to embark.
It just so happens that you chose to have it on a sunset cruise in Old San Juan overlooking the bay as our yellow friend in the sky disappears just over the water. You’re both looking ravishing as I snap a few pictures with that golden glow in the background. You play, you laugh and sip from each other’s glass soaking in what is left of the rays. By now you’re fully immersed in what ‘The Escapade’ is all about: a chance for you to forego the otherwise simple elopement ceremony and truly invest in yourselves. This concept was concocted with the intention of putting love first, having stages all throughout and providing an opportunity to enjoy each other’s company and commemorate every instant with little to no entourage or hassle. Once it’s all said and done, you pack up your things, I take you both back to the airport where we hug it out and talk about how lovely it’ll be to see all of the pictures I’ve taken printed on the album that will eventually show up at your doorstep.

When it comes to photography, is Generative AI a friend…or a foe?
Is Generative AI a friend…or a foe? That’s what we’re going to be discussing, specifically from the standpoint of a destination wedding photographer in Puerto Rico. On one hand, it definitely speeds up my editing workflow but it can also be detrimental to my creative process. Only the best photographers know how to walk the line between using it to your advantage and crass misuse. Choose wisely!
Artificial intelligence is significantly altering the landscape of photography, changing how images are captured, edited, and shared. AI-powered editing tools now offer photographers the ability to enhance photos with a simple click, streamlining post-processing tasks. Additionally, AI-driven cameras can assist in framing shots, adjusting settings in real-time, and even predicting the best moment to press the shutter. While some purists may argue that AI compromises the artistry and skill required in traditional photography, there is no denying its efficiency and accessibility in producing stunning visuals. As AI continues to advance, photographers must adapt to incorporate these technologies into their workflows to stay competitive in the ever-evolving industry.
As a destination wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, I am constantly seeking ways to enhance my craft and provide top-notch service to my clients. Harnessing the power of artificial intelligence has allowed me to become a more efficient and effective artist. By utilizing AI-driven tools for tasks such as image editing, sorting, and organizing, I am now able to streamline my workflow and devote more time to capturing breathtaking moments for couples on their special day. This technological advancement not only benefits my productivity but also ensures that I deliver consistently high-quality results to my clients, helping me stand out in the competitive wedding photography industry.
When it comes to elopement photography in Puerto Rico (something that I do regularly), harnessing the power of artificial intelligence is crucial for staying ahead in the industry. AI can streamline workflows, enhance editing processes, and improve overall image quality, allowing photographers to deliver exceptional results efficiently. By leveraging AI tools for tasks like organizing images, enhancing colors, and reducing noise, elopement photographers can focus more on creativity and personalized client experiences. Embracing AI technology can lead to increased productivity, higher quality work, and ultimately, greater customer satisfaction in capturing intimate elopement moments in Puerto Rico's beautiful settings.
Aftershoot has completely revolutionized my post-processing workflow as one of the top photographers in Puerto Rico. This powerful software tool offers a wide range of advanced features that have significantly enhanced the efficiency and quality of my editing process. From its intuitive interface to its cutting-edge editing tools, Aftershoot has enabled me to elevate my images to a whole new level of cinematic beauty. The automated workflows and precise controls have saved me valuable time while ensuring consistency across all my photographs. Without a doubt, Aftershoot has become an indispensable asset in my photography toolkit, allowing me to deliver stunning, high-quality images to my clients with greater ease and sophistication.
Moreover, platforms like Adobe's Lightroom are now making it substantially easier to remove unwanted items from an image with just one click. The advancements in technology have paved the way for photographers to enhance their images seamlessly, saving valuable time and effort. With this feature, wedding photographers can now ensure that every detail in their photos is pristine and perfect, capturing the essence of the special day without distractions. This sophisticated tool in Lightroom empowers Puerto Rico wedding photographers like myself at to deliver exceptional and flawless cinematic imagery that exceeds our clients' expectations.
Generative AI can also be a detriment to a photographer. While this technology offers convenience and efficiency in generating content, it can never truly replace the creativity, artistry, and emotional intelligence that a Puerto Rico elopement photographer brings to the table. AI may be capable of producing images based on algorithms and data, but it lacks the ability to capture the unique essence and emotions of a wedding day. Clients choose a luxury photographer not only for the visuals but also for the personalized experience and expertise that only a human touch can provide. In the realm of luxury wedding photography, genuine connection and artistic vision are irreplaceable elements that set apart a photographer's work.
Generative AI holds significant drawbacks for photographers despite its advanced capabilities. Firstly, a major concern is the potential loss of creative control. For instance, if a photographer relies heavily on AI to generate compositions, they might find themselves detached from the artistic process, resulting in generic or uninspired work. Secondly, there is a risk of ethical implications, such as copyright infringement. Using AI to create images similar to copyrighted work could lead to legal issues and damage a photographer's reputation. Lastly, the reliance on generative AI may hinder a photographer's ability to develop their own style and voice. Over time, this could result in a portfolio that lacks personal flair and fails to stand out in a competitive industry full of the best photographers in Puerto Rico.
As a destination wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, my relationship with generative AI is a complex one, filled with both love and hate. On one hand, the technology provides a wealth of creative possibilities, allowing me to experiment with different styles and effects to enhance my cinematic imagery. However, there is also a sense of unease that comes with relying on AI to assist in my creative process. It can sometimes feel like a constant ebb and flow - a delicate balance between utilizing AI to streamline tasks and maintain a competitive edge, while also grappling with the fear of it potentially replacing the human touch and artistry that sets my work apart. Despite the challenges, I continue to navigate this relationship, acknowledging the benefits it brings to my craft while striving to retain the soulful essence of my luxury wedding photography.
My Biggest Struggle As A Professional Photographer
After making the decision to become a full-time wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, what was once a part-time hobby is now my all encompassing profession. It has, however, left a void I’ve yet been able to fill. In this article I explain what that is and how I think it affects, not just myself, but other professional photographers in Puerto Rico as well.
As I was filling out an application for a website, I came across one of the most difficult questions I’ve had to answer in years…
What are some of your hobbies?
I froze. I didn’t know what to write or what boxes to check. That’s when I realized: I didn’t have any that didn’t involve holding a camera in my hand or setting it up on a tripod to film myself. Ever since I made the decision to become a professional wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, my ONLY hobby turned into my career. Cameras have consumed my life for the past eight years and if I’m not shooting an elopement in Puerto Rico or taking pictures in Old San Juan for fun while testing out a new lens, I’m at home creating content for social media and furthering my career in front of a computer monitor.
For the first time in a while I felt lost. Admittedly, I felt as though my sense of self was shot to Hell (no pun intended). The identity I had built for almost a decade now had immediately shifted leaving a void I now didn’t know how to fill. How do you cope with reinventing yourself when everything you’ve come to know now consumes your everyday life with no time for anything else? I set out to figure this out on my own and, although it’s been somewhat of a struggle, I think I’m onto something.
It’s easy for me to fall into the trap of treating my profession AS a hobby. We’re simply monetizing and commercializing that which we love doing already so it’s difficult to draw the line between one and the other. As a result, you have absolutely no idea on how to start creating a new hobby where the previous one existed. I have, however, made strides to fill the void namely through learning languages. I’ve always been bilingual since birth (Mom is originally from the Bronx, New York and taught English at almost every educational level) so I grew up speaking both English and Spanish simultaneously. I picked up Portuguese in college as a requirement from my Bachelor’s degree, which came in handy once I met my Brazilian girlfriend at the time.
Today I’m teaching myself some German and Italian via the Duolingo platform in hopes of becoming a well-established polyglot. I think it’ll come in handy when trying to promote myself overseas as a destination wedding photographer; not that I’m not already but most of my clientele comes to Puerto Rico to tie the knot with me (not the other way around). I do love to travel and speaking various languages will definitely be beneficial when visiting countries in Europe, a part of the world I’ve never seen. Ever since I can remember I’ve been a fan of growing through learning and I think that by giving myself the opportunity to acquire additional skillsets, I’ll be able to take my business to the next level.
Since I do have a background in sports, I picked up two signature tennis racquets used by Roger Federer himself (now retired). I figured I could take occasional trips down memory lane playing the sport that gave me so much. I first started playing tennis at age 14 and just four years later found myself at the top of the junior rankings in Puerto Rico. Shortly thereafter I was recruited to play some college tennis but not before trying out my luck in the pros (maintaining amateur status so that I could still be eligible for scholarships). Once it was all said and done, I started teaching tennis as a way to give back to the sport that gave me so much. Now, as an adult, photography has taken such a big chunk of my time that I can barely step foot on the court anymore; those racquets I mentioned buying are now collecting dust in a corner of my bedroom. Sometimes I’ll grab ‘em and swing around just to get that sense of playing. Tragic…I know.
One of the best ways I could invest my time is to do animal rights activism. As a vegan of seven years, it goes hand-in-hand with my belief system and my values move me to speak to animal cruelty. I was often out in the streets doing what’s called ‘outreach’ to unsuspecting bystanders who’d glance casually at the footage on our televisions of slaughterhouses hard “at work”. It’s still deep rooted and engrained with me but unfortunately I can’t commit to activism as I once did, sadly. I just have a hard time allocating the necessary windows of opportunity and resources because photography has now taken the front seat to my life and I’m firmly behind the wheel. This begs the question…
Where do I go from here…?
Time will tell what replaces such a huge part of my life. Don’t get me wrong: it hasn’t gone anywhere; it’s just taken a life of its own in the form of employment. Wedding photography in Puerto Rico is how I make a living, create long-lasting memories and achieve personal satisfaction but: what will take its place? Will it continue to be language learning? Am I going to try to hit some tennis balls a few times a week? I don’t know what the future holds but I do know this: I’m not alone. I know a lot of fellow elopement photographers in Puerto Rico who are battling the same issues in their lives. Taking the plunge of making your passion your form of employment is never easy; you have to weigh so many things in order to achieve some sort of balance.
There is, however, something giving me piece of mind. I now know that cameras will always have a special place in my heart. It is through them that I can commemorate events for my clients, entertain myself whenever I don’t have mandatory obligations as well as simply exercise my creativity both at home and abroad as a professional photographer in Puerto Rico and the world. Needless to say I won’t be giving up looking through a lens anytime soon but I know it can’t all be photo and video. I’ll eventually get to a place in my life where holding a camera will play second fiddle to something else. The question is: what?!

Wedding Photography Pricing: Public, Private…or THIS Third Option!
It’s an age old debate: should you post your photography pricing online for prospective clients to see? One side of the aisle makes the argument for transparency while the other advocates for a more customized approach. As for me, I think that the best photographers in Puerto Rico should adopt my style.
Photographers often fall into two distinct schools of thought when it comes to displaying pricing on their websites. Some photographers in Puerto Rico advocate for transparency and clarity by openly sharing their pricing, believing it helps potential clients make informed decisions quickly. On the other hand, many photographers prefer not to disclose pricing online, either to encourage direct inquiries and conversations for a more personalized approach or to maintain flexibility in pricing based on individual client needs and projects. Both approaches have their merits and appeal to different segments of the market, reflecting the diversity of business strategies within the photography industry.
When considering whether to post photography pricing online or keep them undisclosed, several key differences emerge. Posting pricing online provides transparency to potential clients, allowing them to evaluate whether the services fit their budget without the need for direct inquiries. On the other hand, not disclosing pricing can create a sense of exclusivity and may encourage interested clients to reach out for a personalized quote, potentially leading to higher conversions. By listing prices, photographers risk attracting clients solely focused on cost, whereas withholding pricing may filter out clients not willing to invest in quality work. Ultimately, the decision between these approaches depends on the photographer's branding strategy and target clientele.
For photographers in Puerto Rico grappling with the decision of whether to display their pricing on their websites, there exists a third alternative worth considering. By implementing a hybrid approach, these professionals can strike a balance between transparency and flexibility. One option is to provide a starting price range or a general outline of pricing factors while encouraging potential clients to reach out for personalized quotes. This method allows photographers to maintain a degree of transparency while also accommodating the distinct needs of each client. It fosters a sense of openness and approachability without committing to set prices that may not align with all project specifications. As the photography market continues to evolve, adopting a nuanced pricing strategy can help practitioners navigate the complexities of setting rates in a way that serves both their business and their clients effectively.
As a Puerto Rico destination wedding photographer, I choose to implement this strategy because it allows me to provide the best of both worlds. On one hand, the prospective clients have more or less an idea of what they’d have to invest in order to book my photography services while simultaneously also wondering what kind of packages they’d be able to attain within that investment window. This has worked wonders for me in terms of combining some level of transparency but also creating a sense of intrigue and curiosity. I enjoy being able to satisfy the couple’s wonder of stopping by to inquire about my pricing while at the same time giving them options from which to choose so that they can put two and two together on their own.
Posting your photography pricing online and making it public offers numerous benefits for both photographers and potential clients. Transparency in pricing helps establish trust and clarity right from the start, setting the right expectations for the services offered. It saves time for both parties by filtering out inquiries from those who cannot afford the services, allowing photographers to focus on qualified leads. Public pricing also reduces the likelihood of misunderstandings or negotiation conflicts, leading to smoother booking processes and overall client satisfaction. Moreover, it demonstrates professionalism and confidence in your services, helping you attract clients who value what you offer and are willing to invest in quality photography.
Photographers in San Juan, Puerto Rico publishing their photography pricing without first effectively communicating the value you offer can have significant drawbacks. By solely focusing on pricing, potential clients may perceive your services as commoditized, leading them to base their decision solely on price rather than the quality and expertise you bring. This approach may attract clients seeking bargain deals, ultimately undervaluing your work and making it harder to attract clients willing to pay for the unique experience and high-quality results you provide. Additionally, publicly available pricing may limit your ability to negotiate based on individual client needs and project requirements, potentially resulting in missed opportunities for higher-value engagements.
Keeping photography pricing private offers a level of flexibility and personalized service to potential clients. By not publicly displaying prices, photographers can tailor their quotes based on individual needs, budget constraints, and specific requirements of each project. This approach allows photographers to have more meaningful conversations with clients, understand their vision better, and provide customized packages that meet their expectations. It also creates an opportunity to showcase the value and expertise of the photographer beyond a simple price point, emphasizing quality, creativity, and unique offerings that set them apart in the competitive market.
When wedding photographers choose not to disclose their pricing upfront to potential clients, they risk creating a barrier to booking. Without clear pricing information, couples may become frustrated and move on to other photographers who are more transparent. This lack of transparency can lead to misunderstandings, unrealistic expectations, and wasted time for both parties. Furthermore, not being upfront about pricing can deter price-sensitive clients who are unable or unwilling to invest in services without knowing the cost upfront. Ultimately, the secrecy surrounding pricing can hinder the initial connection between photographers and clients, making it more challenging to establish trust and secure bookings.
I believe that disclosing different tiers of photography pricing is an excellent way to strike a balance between transparency and maintaining a level of flexibility in pricing. By offering these tiers, clients can have a clear idea of the available options without feeling overwhelmed by too many details. It also allows for a level of customization, where clients can choose a package that best suits their needs and budget. This approach fosters trust and openness, as clients appreciate knowing what to expect while still having some room for negotiation or adjustments. Ultimately, this strategy can lead to more satisfied clients and a smoother booking process.
If you’d like to know more about what it is every tier offers, please visit my ‘Inquire’ page and let’s get the process started towards the wedding of your dreams.
My New ‘Must-Have’ Features In All Of My Wedding Packages
For the longest time I had been opposed to putting wedding albums together for my clients as a Puerto Rico wedding photographer. I found them to be tedious and time-consuming. In 2024, my perspective changed. I now see them as a valuable addition to my packages that transcend the test of time. Here’s why.
As a photographer in Puerto Rico, I was under the impression that wedding albums were a thing of the past, believing that clients in modern times were more concerned with digital art than tangible printed keepsakes. However, recent trends and preferences in the photography industry have revealed a surprising resurgence in the demand for traditional wedding albums. Despite the prevalence of digital media, many clients still appreciate the charm and sentimentality of physical photo albums, viewed as timeless treasures that capture the essence of their special day in a way that digital files cannot entirely replicate. Wedding albums continue to hold a significant place in preserving and cherishing memories, bridging the gap between the past and the present in a tangible and enduring manner.
I thought wedding albums were a hassle because of all of the tedious stages involved in its production. From selecting the photos, arranging them chronologically, to choosing the right layout and design, creating a wedding album seemed like a daunting task. The endless back-and-forth with the photographer or the album design team added to the seemingly never-ending process. It felt like an overwhelming project that required too much time and attention to detail—a burdensome chore rather than the cherished keepsake it was meant to be. I know a lot of photographers in San Juan, Puerto Rico that think like this; thankfully, my train of thought has changed.
Including wedding albums in all of my packages is driven by the profound sentiment that there is an undeniable magic in tangibly engaging with the memories of one's wedding day. The ability to touch and flip through the pages of a meticulously crafted album provides a uniquely immersive experience that transcends digital viewing. These albums encapsulate the essence of a couple's most cherished moments, preserving them in a timeless and tactile form that can be revisited and shared for generations to come, truly capturing the beauty and emotion of the occasion.
Having your wedding album sitting on your coffee table or nightstand is the perfectly traditional way to reminisce about one of the most important days of your life. Flipping through the pages filled with captured moments and emotions can transport you back to the joy and love felt on that special day. Each photograph is a tangible reminder of the commitment made and the beginning of a new chapter. The physical presence of the album serves as a visual testament to the enduring bond created, providing a sense of nostalgia and warmth as you relive those cherished memories. These are some of the things I now keep in mind as I strive to be one of the best photographers in Puerto Rico; I feel I can only do that if I add more value to my wedding packages.
In the event of an unforeseen circumstance, such as a computer failure or data corruption, there is a significant risk of losing access to our most treasured memories from a wedding day. The photos, videos, and digital files from that special day hold immense sentimental value, preserving irreplaceable moments and emotions. The potential loss of these memories can be deeply distressing, highlighting the critical need for implementing robust backup strategies to protect these invaluable keepsakes from any unforeseen technological mishaps.
As a tenured professional photographer in Puerto Rico, I can assure you that having a physical wedding album offers a sense of security that surpasses the digital realm. In the event of misplaced or lost digital copies, flipping through the tangible pages of your wedding album can bring a deep sense of comfort and relief. The physical connection to the memories captured on paper provides a timeless reassurance that cannot be replicated by scrolling through a screen. Investing in the permanence of a wedding album allows you to safeguard your precious moments for a lifetime, ensuring they can be cherished for generations to come.
As a photographer in Puerto Rico, I have a deep understanding of what it means to navigate the digital age and the convenience it brings in sharing special moments like weddings online with friends and family. Capturing the essence of a couple's big day and being able to instantly share it through digital platforms has become an integral part of the modern wedding experience. From exchanging vows against the backdrop of Puerto Rico's picturesque landscapes to the vibrant celebration of love and unity, these moments can now be shared seamlessly with a global audience at the click of a button. The ability to document and disseminate these cherished memories in real-time underscores the profound impact of technology on the way we connect and celebrate love in this digital era.
There is something uniquely comforting about revisiting memories of one's wedding day over a leisurely cup of coffee on a tranquil Sunday morning alongside a beloved partner. The essence of love and grace inherent in such retrospection intertwines with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, creating a serene ambiance that invites reflection and gratitude. As the swirls of steam rise from the mug, so do cherished moments and emotions from that special day, offering a brief sanctuary from the demands of everyday life. Savoring this intimate moment allows for a reconnection to the profound bond forged on that occasion, infusing the present with warmth and nostalgia. Trust me when I say this, as a photographer in Puerto Rico I’d want the best for you so why not have the best of both worlds?
Initially, my perspective on wedding albums was completely non-existent; I wanted nothing to do with them. However, through prioritizing the preferences and desires of my clients above my own, my viewpoint underwent a significant transformation. By listening attentively to their expectations and understanding the importance of capturing their cherished memories in a way that resonated with them, I realized the profound significance of wedding albums as a means of encapsulating the beauty and joy of such precious moments. This shift in focus not only enhanced my professionalism as a photographer in Puerto Rico but also deepened the emotional connection and satisfaction experienced by those entrusting me with their special day.
Making the decision to create wedding albums for my clients was not an easy one. Initially, I hesitated, questioning the necessity of a physical representation of their perfect day when digital copies seemed sufficient. However, after switching positions and investing in crafting these keepsakes, I can now honestly say that adding a tangible touch elevates the entire experience. The process of curating and presenting their memories in a beautifully bound album brings me immense joy, knowing that I am contributing to immortalizing their special day in a way that surpasses digital imagery. From 6x6 to 12x12, all of my brides and grooms will now be able to flip through the pages of wedding albums and forever take a trip down memory lane.
Why Wedding Photography IS The Hardest Of Them All
When it comes to hiring someone to document your special day, the very best photographers in Puerto Rico shoot weddings. This is due to the fact that they bring their expertise of product, architecture, portraits, family and events all bundled into a 10 hour session. The mere fact of implementing all these skillsets into a single day is what makes a Puerto Rico destination wedding photographer one of the hardest jobs on the island.
As a wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, I can assure you it is often considered one of the most challenging forms of this craft due to the high stakes involved. Capturing the essence of a couple's special day requires a unique skill set that combines technical expertise with artistic flair. Photographers must navigate ever-changing lighting conditions, unpredictable weather, and fast-paced events while ensuring they document every important moment flawlessly. The pressure to deliver stunning images that will be cherished for a lifetime adds an extra layer of complexity to an already demanding job. Despite the challenges, wedding photographers possess the ability to freeze time and create everlasting memories that speak volumes about love, joy, and commitment.
Wedding photography presents a unique set of challenges that extend beyond external stressors. One of the most significant difficulties is the realization that you are not merely a couple's photographer but also a storyteller, capturing precious moments that will be treasured for a lifetime. This responsibility goes beyond technical skills and artistic vision; it involves navigating intricate relationships, understanding the dynamics between families, and embodying the role of both a silent observer and an active participant in someone's special day. The challenge lies in striking the perfect balance between being present in the moment to capture authentic emotions and fading into the background to allow the love story to unfold naturally. Wedding photography demands not only technical expertise but also emotional intelligence and a profound sense of empathy to truly encapsulate the essence of the couple's unique bond.
Wedding photography stands out as one of the most challenging fields in our craft due to the multifaceted nature of capturing such a significant event. Unlike other photography niches that focus on specific subjects or moments, wedding photography encompasses a wide range of elements throughout the entire day. From intricate details like the dress and decorations to candid moments of joy, love, and raw emotion, wedding photographers need to be versatile and skilled in various styles to ensure they capture every aspect of the celebration. This requires not only technical expertise but also creativity, adaptability, and the ability to work seamlessly across different photography genres within the span of a single event. The complexity and unpredictability of weddings make this niche both demanding and rewarding for photographers who strive to document one of the most important days in a couple's life.
As a Puerto Rico destination wedding photographer, my primary focus is on capturing the couple's details with precision and artistry. Each element, from the intricate lace on the bride's gown to the delicate embroidery on the groom's suit, holds significance in telling the story of their special day. This attention to detail necessitates utilizing all the skills and expertise I have acquired in product photography. By applying techniques honed in product photography, such as lighting, composition, and angle selection, I can elevate even the smallest elements of the couple's attire and accessories, preserving them as cherished memories for years to come. I enjoy shooting the details first in a stress-free environment because it centers me and allows me to exercise my creativity while also starting out a special day on the right foot.
When tasked with photographing a venue during a wedding in Puerto Rico, one becomes inadvertently transformed into an architectural photographer, capturing not just the moments but the essence of the space itself. The rich history and intricate design of Puerto Rican venues demand an artist's eye for detail as one navigates through the charmingly ornate structures. To truly showcase the grandeur of these spaces, one must adeptly seek out leading lines that draw the viewer's gaze towards the focal points, expertly utilizing wide-angle establishing shots to encapsulate the magnificence of the venue. Balancing the art of capturing both the architectural beauty and the emotional intimacy of a wedding becomes a delicate dance, resulting in photographs that preserve not just the ceremony but the very soul of the place.
A wedding photographer in Puerto Rico inevitably needs to possess the skill of shooting portrait photography as part of their repertoire. This familiarity is particularly crucial during the getting ready process for both the bride and the groom. Capturing the intricate details and emotions leading up to the wedding ceremony requires a delicate touch and an understanding of how to bring out the best in individuals. The ability to blend artistic vision with technical expertise is essential for creating timeless portraits that will be cherished for years to come. In Puerto Rican wedding traditions, the getting ready process is a significant part of the celebration, making it essential for a wedding photographer to excel in portrait photography to capture these intimate moments effortlessly.
Photographers in Puerto Rico who aspire to be recognized as the best understand the significance of having a solid foundation in family portraiture. This skill is particularly essential on an island where weddings are a cherished tradition, and group portraits are a central part of the celebration. Capturing precious moments with family members during these events requires not only technical expertise but also the ability to connect with the subjects and evoke genuine emotions. By mastering family portraiture, photographers can ensure that they meet the high demand for capturing beautiful and meaningful group portraits at weddings in Puerto Rico.
Professional photographers in Puerto Rico must have a robust repertoire of both prompting and posing techniques when capturing the ever-so-popular bride and groom session at weddings. With the island's breathtaking natural backdrop and vibrant cultural heritage, photographers are tasked with not only creating visually stunning images but also encapsulating the love and joy shared between the couples. Whether it's guiding them through natural, candid moments or orchestrating elegant and romantic poses, these photographers play a crucial role in immortalizing one of the most special days in a couple's life. Their skillful balance of directing and allowing genuine emotions to shine through results in timeless and cherished wedding memories.
In conclusion, top photographers excel in their craft by seamlessly transitioning to event photography during the wedding reception. This phase allows them to showcase their creativity by experimenting with techniques such as shutter drag and flash photography. The best photographers embrace the lively atmosphere of the reception, capturing candid moments and infusing their work with a blend of artistry and technical skill. This pivotal stage of the event challenges photographers to adapt quickly, incorporating dynamic elements into their shots to immortalize the celebration in a unique and visually compelling manner.
When it comes to hiring excellent wedding photographers in Puerto Rico, one must understand that quality comes at a cost. These professionals are not cheap because what you are essentially paying for is the expertise of an artist who is adept at multitasking. A skilled wedding photographer needs to juggle various roles simultaneously. They must possess an artistic eye to capture breathtaking moments, technical proficiency to manage their equipment effectively, interpersonal skills to direct and work with clients, adaptability to handle unforeseen challenges, business acumen to manage bookings and finances, and creativity to deliver unique and memorable photographs. Thus, the investment in a top-tier Puerto Rico wedding photographer goes beyond just pictures—it is the assurance of a seamless blend of artistry, professionalism, and craftsmanship on your special day.
When reflecting on the art of wedding photography in Puerto Rico, it becomes evident that the best photographers possess a unique ability to capture the essence of love and celebration in every moment they frame. These talented individuals skillfully blend the vibrant colors of the island with the tender emotions of the occasion, resulting in captivating visual stories that unfold with grace and elegance. Through their keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of cultural nuances, they craft timeless images that not only freeze moments in time but also resonate with genuine emotions. The best photographers in Puerto Rico deliver not just photographs but cherished memories that serve as a testament to the beauty of love and the magic of weddings.
Styled Shoot or Wedding? If You Can’t Tell: It’s A Problem…FOR EVERYONE.
In a world full of artificial intelligence and fake news, it’s easy to be deceived in terms of what’s real and what’s not. In the space of wedding photography sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference. As a destination wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, I felt compelled to give you an inside look so that you can be informed of how to spot a real wedding vs. the trendy ‘styled shoots’.
I recently had the exciting opportunity to participate in my first styled shoot for a fake wedding, surrounded by over thirty of my fellow Puerto Rico wedding photographers. The event was a unique and collaborative experience where we were able to showcase our skills and creativity in a simulated wedding setting. Working alongside other professionals in the industry was not only inspiring but also a great learning opportunity. It was fascinating to witness the different perspectives and styles each photographer brought to the shoot, making it a truly enriching experience. Overall, being part of this styled shoot has further fueled my passion for wedding photography and has left me looking forward to more collaborative projects in the future.
Participating in such a magical scenario has offered me a fresh vantage point, akin to the perspective my clients encounter when they entrust me with capturing their special moments as their chosen wedding photographer in Puerto Rico. The meticulous attention to detail, the intertwining of diverse elements to create a harmonious narrative, and the seamless orchestration of the shoot mirror the dedication and artistry I bring to each client's event. Witnessing the shoot come to life has not only refined my skills but also deepened my appreciation for the transformative power of capturing love and emotions through the lens. It's a reminder of the privilege and responsibility that comes with being a wedding photographer, solidifying my commitment to providing clients with timeless memories to cherish for a lifetime. If you’re unfamiliar with the concept, you might be asking yourself…
What exactly is a ‘styled shoot’?
In summary, a styled shoot is a collaborative effort by wedding vendors to showcase their creative skills. It’s a wedding setting where vendors provide their services and expertise in exchange for images of their work. It’s a great way for vendors to demonstrate their talents and for couples to see what different vendors can do. Styled shoots are a collaborative effort that showcases the talents of various wedding vendors, each playing a crucial role in bringing the vision to life. From photographers capturing every detail with artistic flair to florists adorning the scene with exquisite blooms, and from talented bakers crafting delectable confections to stationery designers adding a touch of elegance with bespoke invitations, the array of vendors is diverse and essential. Makeup artists and hair stylists work their magic to enhance the beauty of the models, while wedding planners orchestrate the entire shoot behind the scenes, ensuring that every element harmonizes seamlessly. Together, these vendors fuse their skills and creativity to create a stunning visual narrative that inspires and delights.
Styled shoots have become a popular trend in the world of events and photography due to their ability to showcase creativity, innovation, and attention to detail. These meticulously planned photo sessions bring together a team of talented professionals, including photographers, stylists, florists, and decorators, to create stunning visual scenes that can inspire and captivate audiences. With social media platforms providing a vast space for sharing and discovering content, styled shoots have gained momentum in recent years by offering a curated and aesthetically pleasing look that resonates with a broad audience. The rise in popularity can also be attributed to the desire for unique and personalized content in a time when individuality and creativity are highly valued. Hence, styled shoots have emerged as a means to express artistic visions, set new trends, and establish a distinct identity in a visually driven digital landscape. That begs the question…
How does a styled shoot differ from an actual wedding?
As a destination wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, I can assure you the differences between a styled shoot and an actual destination wedding are distinct. A styled shoot is meticulously planned and executed to showcase the artistic vision of vendors, often exaggerated for editorial or promotional purposes. It allows for creativity without the constraints of a real event. On the other hand, an actual destination wedding involves real couples, emotions, and the unpredictable elements of a live celebration. The backdrop of Puerto Rico's natural beauty and cultural richness enhances the authenticity of a destination wedding, providing a unique and unforgettable experience for the couple and their guests. While a styled shoot captures the essence of creativity and design, a destination wedding in Puerto Rico encapsulates the real joy and magic of a once-in-a-lifetime celebration.
When considering the vast differences between an actual wedding in Puerto Rico and a styled shoot, it is crucial to understand that the primary distinction lies in their purpose and execution. An actual wedding is a real-life event that involves genuine emotions, dynamic interactions, and unforeseen moments that create a unique and authentic experience for the couple and their guests. On the other hand, a styled shoot is a carefully curated photoshoot designed to showcase specific themes, styles, or vendors in a controlled environment. Confusing these two concepts can be detrimental to potential clients as they may have unrealistic expectations regarding what can be achieved on their wedding day. Understanding this disparity can help clients make informed decisions and ensure that they receive a wedding that truly reflects their vision and personality. This is paramount to you, as a client, in the search for a wedding photographer in Puerto Rico.
How can you spot the differences between the two?
When observing a photoshoot that is entirely styled rather than capturing a real wedding, several distinct signs become apparent to the keen eye. One common indicator is the meticulous and deliberate positioning of items such as table settings, flowers, and decorations, which often appear perfect in a way that is rarely achieved in real-life events. Additionally, the presence of an unusually large team of stylists, assistants, and photographers hovering around the couple can hint at a staged production rather than a genuine celebration. The lack of genuine emotions and interactions between the couple and guests may also serve as a giveaway, as posed smiles and staged poses can be spotted easily. Lastly, continuous pauses and adjustments made by the photographers to achieve the ideal shot further emphasize the artificial nature of a styled photoshoot in contrast to the natural flow of a real wedding day.
When discerning between a real, live wedding being captured and a staged, styled photoshoot orchestrated by wedding vendors, prospective clients can identify several giveaways. The genuine emotions and interactions among the couple and guests are key markers of an authentic wedding, reflecting the joy, love, and spontaneity of the moment. In contrast, staged photoshoots may appear more polished and orchestrated, with carefully curated details and poses that can sometimes lack the natural flow and organic connections seen in real weddings. Additionally, the dynamic energy and unpredictability present in a live event are distinct from the controlled environment of a styled shoot, where every element is meticulously planned and executed for aesthetic purposes. Ultimately, the authenticity and raw emotions captured in real wedding photographs resonate deeply with couples seeking to capture the essence of their special day in a genuine and heartfelt manner.
The importance of telling them apart.
As a prospective client looking for a wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, it’s of the utmost importance for you to have the ability to distinguish between what’s real and what is not. This is due to the fact that not doing so will leave you to be susceptible to being mislead and/or disappointed. How, you ask? Well, it’s extremely easy to scroll through social media, specially Instagram, and let your eyes deceive you while thinking that what you’re consuming is and/or was a real life wedding between two people who truly care for each other versus paid actors. As a content creator myself I know that, in reality, when something stands out and goes ‘viral’, the chances and likelihood of that being staged are extremely high. I may be biased because I’m a wedding photographer myself but, more often than not, I can tell when pictures are ‘too good to be true’, so to speak and lack that authenticity that you see in most nuptials photography in Puerto Rico.
I’ve shot weddings in countless venues and, even with my experience, I know that in order to attain some of the results that I see other photographers achieve, there’s no other explanation than to come to the conclusion that much of the imagery posted online is the product of meticulous creativity planned sometimes a month in advance. Why is it a big deal to spill the beans about this? That’s because the last thing that I want you, a potential client, to feel is disillusion whenever you get your wedding pictures delivered. For example, let’s say that you fell head over heels for a picture with a perfectly crafted sky, flashes placed carefully around the couple posing, the editing itself is nearly flawless, the flowers and overall decoration look straight out of a fairytale and your jaw is an inch from the floor. Do you actually think this happens during the fifteen to twenty minutes wedding planners usually give us, the Puerto Rico wedding photographer, for a bride and groom session? Doubt it. Personally, I’ve had that alone time last even less with some couples, five minutes of which were invested opening up a light diffuser and setting up sturdy stand.
Don’t get me wrong: this isn’t to say that I’m not surrounded by an amazing core of photographers in my neck of the woods. Moreover, if you stumble across a wedding photographer in Puerto Rico who has shot countless weddings at the same venue, they probably know every nook and cranny in that space and can easily set up a seemingly perfect environment ahead of time; it’s worth noting that even I can play devil’s advocate here. Having said that, the odds of receiving a more realistic looking set of images has far greater odds of being achieved than to cross your fingers expecting the same results that blew your mind on social media when you first glanced at that photographer’s account. I’m willing to bet anything in the world that the photographer in whom you’re interested is extremely familiar with the place, arrived incredibly early to set up and/or has an amazingly creative staff helping them craft a borderline unbelievable scenario for their clients. I’m not saying it’s not possible: all I’m saying is that it’s highly unlikely. That brings me to my next point…
It’s all about being honest with them…and yourself.
I know all about the exorbitant amount of pressure of being a wedding photographer in Puerto Rico. You’ll do just about anything to stand out amongst a saturated market vying to capture the nuptials of the most lavish and extravagant backdrops in the entire world. What I don’t recommend, however, is deceiving to try and stand out among the competition. What do I mean by that?
A disclaimer should be made when participating in a styled shoot.
Not doing so can have dire repercussions, not just for the audience that already follows your work, but also for the target market (i.e. prospective clients) that will eventually see the results of a fake photoshoot pawned off as a paid wedding. Trust me when I say this: you don’t want to be the photographer that starts off a relationship making the client who contacted you believe the images you’re posting are, not just easily attainable, but also represent your everyday norm. This is the perfect shortcut to overpromising and underdelivering; it’s the gateway to false expectations.
By not providing your followers this preface of what they’re about to see, you’re setting yourself up for massive failure. Think of it this way: if you ultimately make them a wedding album that looks nothing quite like the imagery that caught their attention, you’re inevitably going to end up with a huge problem on your hands: an unsatisfied client will wreak havoc on your reputation and business in general. The last thing you want on a Wedding Wire review is a disgruntled couple who was promised the same quality that drew them to you in the first place. Being a wedding photographer in Puerto Rico (in and of itself) is not an easy task, but by no means should you resort to masquerading reality with fantasy in a world where most of what you see is not feasible. There are two sides to that coin and taking the silent approach isn’t favorable for you in the community either.
Lying will make you stand out…in a negative way.
I recently stumbled across a Youtube video of an Italian wedding photography couple showing behind-the-scenes footage of how they staged their most recent styled shoot. The couple hired to portray the bride and groom were professional models nothing short of demigods. The venue was an 18th century castle with architectural inspiration derived from medieval times. The set and flower decor was prepared in a way you can only find in the most cinematic of scenarios and the lighting with which the photographers posed the couple was pure divinity. In short: a stage you’re only accustomed to seeing in your wildest dreams. As I enjoyed the footage, I can only think to myself: “Wow, if I only had this much time to setup, I’d probably come close to this each and every time I booked a wedding.” Boy, was I in for a huge reality check.
Since I also follow the photographers on a wide array of social media platforms, I couldn’t help but notice they shared the end result of the video I had previously witnessed. I honestly couldn’t believe my eyes: they had failed to disclose that the photoshoot I saw on YouTube was, in fact, styled to the nines. To make matters worse, they captioned their photo carousel with every wedding hashtag imaginable. In other words, not only were they dishonest about their journey but they decided to build on top of their dishonesty and landed on a destination whose foundation was an absolute lie.
I felt like someone spit on my face.
I don’t know why but the overwhelming feeling that came over me was one of betrayal. Not only did I look to these colleagues of mine for inspiration but learning of their deceit made me feel so disrespected. Moreover, it raised all levels of suspicion for me because it got me wondering if the sole reason as to why I derived motivation from their work was based on a premise that wasn’t true to life. Now I’m not necessarily saying they fell off the proverbial pedestal for me because I wholeheartedly believe our levels of photography are on par with each other; I just enjoy consuming another person’s art who sees the same things as I do but with an entirely different vantage point. That disappeared for me, it vanished. I can no longer see their work with the same eyes because of what their actions represent: a façade of untruths. At one point of time the level of disgust was so vast within me that I had to step away from the computer and soak in everything that was happening.
When I finally calmed down, I sat on the edge of my bed and tried not to succumb to my emotions. As I became level-headed again, I tried to wrap myself around what I had just seen and began to dissect what was really going on. On one hand, I felt like I (along with many others realizing what was happening) was being stepped on in order to reach another level. This, in business, is generally frowned upon: leaping someone so that the person can reach new heights. I must say it angered me quite a bit but then my reasoning took an entirely different turn. The thought came into my head that what was really going on was that this photographer was etching in stone the standards by which they would eventually be obligated to adhere. You see, when you establish a precedent, anything that happens moving forward would need to exceed and/or, at the very least, be consistently similar throughout their entire career. As they say: “if you make the bed, you then have to sleep in it.”
I can’t even begin to fathom the amount of added stress that photographer will have to endure day in and day out moving forward. This charade of posing and prompting instead of shooting authentic and genuine weddings will eventually catch up and they’ll inevitably be forced to come clean. In now way, shape or form do I wish that upon myself, much less my fellow colleagues in the industry.
What can be done by you, the client?
If you’re a future bride and groom looking for a wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, there are specifically two things that you can do as prospective client to prevent falling victim to this debacle. First, ask questions. If your interest is piqued by what you see on a photographer’s social media and/or their website then by all means take that newly-found attention and contact them directly. Ask them if a specific image and/or video was the result of an actual wedding or a styled shoot instead. Put yourself in a position to attain clarity. If one thing seems too far-fetched in comparison to the rest of their galleries then it should represent a red flag. Now I’m not necessarily saying that the same results cannot be achieved if you were to hire someone like them or myself but rest assured the level of planning and logistics would have to increase dramatically in order to attain the same outcome.
The second thing I highly incentivize you doing is to formally request what’s called a ‘love story’ session. This is essentially a private, lengthy and well thought out photography session with your future wedding photographer. The similarities you’ll find between this engagement session and a styled shoot make them almost an identical venture together. It has many of the same benefits including: creating chemistry with one another both personally and professionally, it’s a great opportunity for clients to get comfortable in front of a camera before their big day, it serves as an excellent platform to get creative with shots you wouldn’t otherwise be able to attain and it lasts way longer than the scheduled bride and groom session you’d normally have during your wedding in Puerto Rico.
In conclusion, I don’t want anyone thinking that I’m against a well-prepared styled shoot. To be honest, I had an amazing time being in front of the camera and experiencing the guidance from my fellow photographers, something that my own clients have to do whenever I’m behind the camera. I dipped my feet in the photography pool from the other side and I got a taste of what it’s like to be on the opposing side of the lens. Knowing what I know now, I’d be more than happy to be part and even organize a styled shoot in the future but I’d definitely go about it the right way: being honest, transparent and clear about my intentions not just with my future clients…but with myself.
Special shoutout to Maydeline Inés for providing the photography.
You Should Not Feel Guilty About Having A Lavish Wedding
When it comes to the wedding you’ve always imagined in Puerto Rico, you shouldn’t cut corners: that starts with investing in the right things. The first order of business after a reputable wedding planner is the photographer. This person will be tasked solely on documenting the entire day. Here’s why you shouldn’t feel guilty about hiring someone that’s worth every penny.
Certainly, couples should not feel guilty about having a lavish wedding. The decision to host a grand celebration to mark such a significant milestone in their lives is a personal choice that should not be clouded by guilt. It is important to remember that a wedding is a reflection of the couple's values, dreams, and desires. If they have the means and wish to have a lavish wedding to create unforgettable memories with their loved ones, they should do so without unnecessary guilt. Every couple deserves to celebrate their love in a way that is meaningful to them, whether it's through an intimate gathering or an extravagant affair. The key is to prioritize what truly matters to them and enjoy the special day to the fullest without letting guilt overshadow the joy of the occasion.
While wedding planning often comes with a mix of emotions, brides and grooms shouldn't feel guilty about treating themselves to an extravagant wedding day. It's important to remember that this is a monumental occasion celebrating their love and commitment. Just like any other milestone event in life, splurging on elements that make the day special is a way to create lasting memories. Each couple should feel empowered to personalize their wedding day according to their preferences, whether it involves a grand venue, luxurious decor, or gourmet cuisine. By embracing the opportunity to indulge in a celebration that reflects their unique love story, couples can create a day that truly resonates with them for years to come.
It can backfire in the long run
When searching for an excellent wedding photographer in Puerto Rico, couples should strive to set aside thoughts about money. Focusing solely on the cost of photography services can lead to missed opportunities to connect with a talented professional who can truly capture the essence of their special day. By prioritizing the quality, style, and compatibility of a photographer over pricing considerations, couples can ensure that they find someone who can beautifully document their love story in a way that resonates with them for years to come. Memories are priceless, and investing in a skilled photographer who can preserve those precious moments is a decision that couples are unlikely to regret.
Investing in a professional wedding photographer in Puerto Rico is crucial to ensure that the special day is captured in all its beauty and magic. Failing to allocate sufficient resources towards this essential aspect can have dire consequences, potentially casting a shadow over the cherished memories of the event. A lack of professional photography services may lead to subpar quality images that fail to do justice to the emotions and significance of the day. Couples risk losing the opportunity to preserve their vision of a perfect wedding, as amateur or inexperienced photographers may miss key moments or fail to capture the true essence of the occasion. Ultimately, not investing enough in a professional wedding photographer in Puerto Rico can result in a permanent gap in the documentation of a momentous milestone, robbing the couple of the chance to relive their special day through stunning, high-quality photographs.
You’ve imagined your special day for a long time
In the realm of weddings, brides and grooms have long nurtured a specific vision of their dream day, meticulously crafting every detail to encapsulate their love story. This cherished vision often represents their hopes, dreams, and aspirations, culminating in a celebration that reflects their unique bond. As this pivotal moment approaches, the temptation to cut corners may arise due to various factors. However, it is essential to remember that this day holds unparalleled significance, symbolizing the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. While challenges may surface, sacrificing the essence of their vision should not be an option, for this day is meant to be a testament to their love and commitment.
When couples choose to cut back financially on their wedding, it can inadvertently impact the way a wedding photographer in Puerto Rico documents their special day. Hiring an experienced photographer guarantees the capturing of priceless moments with skill and attention to detail. However, budget constraints may lead couples to opt for less experienced or under-equipped photographers, potentially compromising the quality of the images. A skilled photographer knows how to work with different lighting conditions on the island, understands the best angles to showcase the beauty of Puerto Rico's landscapes, and has the necessary equipment to ensure stunning results. Investing in a professional photographer is crucial in preserving memories that will last a lifetime and should be considered a priority even when planning a budget-friendly wedding.
You only get to do this once
In a perfect world, the idea of getting married once is synonymous with creating a cherished moment so profound that it becomes a timeless memory. This once-in-a-lifetime occasion deserves to be adorned with every detail that reflects individuality and dreams fulfilled. Among the key elements that epitomize this perfect day is a skilled wedding photographer in Puerto Rico. Capturing each emotion, every glance, and the sheer delight of the celebration, a talented photographer not only freezes moments but also etches them into the core of your being. Their artistry ensures that your dream wedding is not just lived but immortalized, allowing you to revisit those enchanting moments for years to come.
On your wedding day, there are moments that call for frugality, but hiring a wedding photographer in Puerto Rico is not one of them. This special day is a once-in-a-lifetime occasion where every heartfelt moment deserves to be captured in all its splendor. Investing in a skilled photographer allows you to immortalize not just the images but the emotions that will be cherished for years to come. It is a day to set modesty aside and make sure no stone is unturned when it comes to preserving memories that will be cherished for a lifetime. Trusting a professional photographer to document your special day in Puerto Rico ensures that every smile, every tear, and every joyous celebration is captured beautifully, creating a timeless treasure to be shared for generations.

Moreover, engagement shoots offer time to discuss preferences, test out different poses, and convey any specific ideas to the photographer, guaranteeing the wedding photos reflect the couple's vision accurately. Overall, investing in an engagement session can help set the tone for a successful and personalized wedding photography experience.
