Italy: My Destination Wedding Photography Dream

In May, I made my second trip to South America, namely Peru, as an ambassador to Aftershoot. There I met up with some of the most renowned destination photographers in the world, many from Europe. One look at their portfolio and I was in love. Many of them shoot high end weddings in Spain, Italy and France with an aesthetic that would leave anyone breathless. Most of their portfolio features a very filmic, nostalgic look to their images reminiscent of that 90’s film camera vibe that is making a resurgence. A few pictures also stand out because of their passion for film photography which, according to social media, is also making a comeback.
I have since then revamped by algorithms to include more of that European style since it differs so much from the American look for weddings that I am accustomed to shoot as a wedding photographer in Puerto Rico. There’s something inherently innate from the images that come out of European photography, namely Italian, as I find the romance captured in them transcends anything else I’ve ever seen. As a result, I’ve added shooting a wedding in Italy as a major bullet point in my photographic career. Moreover, I’ve begun to teach myself Italian so that I can market my services abroad and immerse myself in the culture. I’m looking to visit Italy for the first time soon and I think it would be a great starting point.

As an Italian destination wedding photographer, my focus would shift to doubling-down on my candid photography which is what I’m know for as a photographer in Puerto Rico. I thoroughly enjoy capturing moments as they happen and I feel as though brides and grooms in Italy prefer that a million times over carefully concocted sessions that waste precious time during a wedding. It almost seems as though Italian weddings place more weight on romanticizing their special day as opposed to making sure they look good all the time; that falls in line with who I am as a destination wedding photographer because my attention shifts to making memories for my couples as opposed to striving for a superficial outcome.
